Is cold weather dangerous for elderly people?
Answered by Senior.Housing.Advisor Wednesday Jun 8th 2011 Yes cold weather can be very dangerous for elderly people. Their bodies dont react as quickly to cold weather as fast as younger people. This makes them very susceptable to hypothermia a condition where your body temperature is lower than it normally should be (usually below 95). Blood does not circulate as well turning digits yellow and white along with the brain not working as well as normal. Judgment becomes impaired very quickly and their are balance issue which a bad fall can be very serious especially if they are not found in time. When picking a place to retire or live in old age the climate should be considered. Keeping warm is very important.
